College notebook: Hammill leading Badgers on another NCAA run

Senior setter Madison “MJ” Hammill delivered 20 assists, 14 digs and a service ace as host Wisconsin earned a four-set victory over Penn State in an NCAA regional volleyball semifinal. The Center Grove graduate was a member of the 2021 national championship team for the No. 1-seeded Badgers, who host Oregon in a regional final Saturday evening.

Center Grove

Truman State guard Claire Rake finished with 15 points, three assists and two steals in the team’s 88-86 loss at home to Upper Iowa.

Vermont guard Emma Utterback tallied 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and made two steals in the team’s 46-44 win over visiting Holy Cross. She added 18 points, three boards and five assists in a 62-42 victory at Army.

Bentley guard Ella Thompson scored seven points, grabbed two rebounds and had two assists, in a 59-52 win at Southern New Hampshire.

Freshman guard Marcus Ankney scored nine points and dealt three assists in Indiana Wesleyan’s 80-76 defeat of Bethel, and a team-high 15 points and three assists in the Wildcats’ 109-75 triumph over East-West.

Junior forward Justin DeGraaf had 13 points and a rebound for UC-San Diego in its 98-67 triumph over Occidental.

University of Indianapolis men’s basketball downed Drury, 82-51, with sophomore guard Ajay Holubar scoring three points.

Indiana Wesleyan’s football season came to an end with a 31-21 loss at Georgetown College (Kentucky) in the quarterfinals of the NAIA playoffs. Freshman Nolan Foley averaged 30.7 yards on three punts.

Franklin

Radford women’s basketball lost at Niagara, 64-53, despite sophomore guard Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Huntington’s 106-36 rout of Calumet of St. Joseph included eight points from junior guard Kyra Baker.

Franklin College freshman post Dylan Beverly scored five points, grabbed four rebounds and had three assists in a 77-70 win over visiting Anderson. He finished with five points, three rebounds and a blocked shot in the Grizzlies’ 78-77 loss at Transylvania.

Whiteland

Freshman guard Austin Willoughby scored five points and collected two boards in a 67-62 victory at Mount St. Joseph. He scored six points and had four rebounds in an 80-64 defeat of visiting Bluffton.

Indian Creek

Marian University kicked off its women’s indoor track and field season at UIndy’s Scott Fangman Invitational, with sophomore Luci Woodrum finishing third in the mile run.

Greenwood

Taylor sophomore Quinn Kelly scored six points, grabbed four rebounds and passed out four assists in the team’s 74-60 home loss to Marian.

Indiana wrestler Nick Willham, a graduate student, lost his match at 285 pounds, 5-4, in the Hoosiers’ 18-15 win at Princeton.

Anderson center Gavin Dowling scored three points to go along with three rebounds in a 77-70 loss at Franklin College. He finished with four points and a team-best seven rebounds in the Ravens’ 73-54 win at Earlham.

Greenwood Christian

Indiana Wesleyan guard Izzy Reed had eight points and two rebounds in the women’s basketball team’s 92-56 win over Bethel.
