MORGANTOWN

Robert B. “Bob” Arnold, age 86 passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 14, 2023 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a longtime resident of Morgantown.

Bob was born January 15, 1937 in South Pittsburg, TN to his parents, the late George and Louise (Brown) Arnold. He attended High School in Ringgold, GA and went on to serve as a Sergeant with the Indiana National Guard for 12 years. Bob retired in 1996 as a Shift Supervisor at the Eagle Valley Power Plant of Indianapolis Power & Light after 28 years of service.

He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown, where he served as a past Deacon and Trustee. Bob was a former member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Jaycee’s of Morgantown and East Hill Cemetery Board. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Freida, farming and mowing. Bob especially loved spending time with his family. He always grew an abundant garden for the family to freeze and can food for the winter. Bob always looked forward to driving his antique tractor every year in the Morgantown Annual Memorial Day Parade. He was a fan of NASCAR with Dale Earnhardt Jr. being his favorite driver.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Frieda M. (Schroeder) Arnold, whom he married on October 26, 1956 in Morgantown. He is also survived by a son, Jeff (Lesa) Arnold of Morgantown; son in law, David Heilwagen of Indianapolis; siblings, Betty (Lee) Nelson of Ringgold, GA, Patsy (Alvin) Worley of Ringgold, GA, Marty (Gary) McNeese of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Charlie (Debbie) Arnold of East Ridge, TN and Judy (Frank) Lambert of Ringgold, GA; grandchildren, Brad (Sara) Heilwagen of Nashville, TN, Brad (Brooke) Sichting of Morgantown, Brandon (Leah Gunter) Sichting of Bargersville, Lauren (Adam) Mullis of Greenwood, Makenzie (Jake) Marker of Morgantown & Tara Heilwagen of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren, Adam, Alison, Bentley, Bryson, Kinsley, Lance, Brinley, Kendall & Nolan; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie Heilwagen; and a sister, Ruby Bonar.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday, Dec. 19th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Morgantown, 2717 S. Morgantown Road. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18th at the church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
