Ruth V. Sheek passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was 91.
Ruth Virginia Sheek was born on December 17, 1932, in Boonville, Indiana, to the Rev. Norman and Hazel Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip L. Sheek and a son, Dennis L. Henning.
A long-time realtor and insurance agent in the Greenwood area, Ruth was known by many and loved by most. She did not suffer fools gladly or quietly. Ruth always tried to value people over possessions and enjoyed the simplicity of living daily life without pretense or the need for it. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, exercising, domestic and international travel, and quiet evenings near a well-laid crackling fire in her living room fireplace.
Ruth is survived by her children and their spouses, Dwight (Janice), David (Floyd), Teresa (Gary), Pamela (Jeff), 8 grandchildren, her sister, Laverna Damer, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the leadership team of Greenwood Village South and the staff of the Pavilion residence for their generous, loving care of Ruth these past years. All of us who loved her as mother, sister and friend are so grateful – thank you.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at Wilson-St. Pierre, 481 West Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana, on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Please join us for visitation with family at 12:00 Noon and a life celebration service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association will both honor Ruth’s memory and support research and care for those who are living with Alzheimer’s. Thank you.
