James “Pat” Forbes

FRANKLIN

James Patrick (“Pat”) Forbes, 74, of Franklin, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2023. Pat was born in Indianapolis on May 31, 1949 to Rev. Dr. James Kenneth and Jane Forbes. He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1967. He served 6 years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Guam. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and received his law degree from Indiana University. While living in Mount Vernon, he was a deputy prosecutor at the Posey County Prosecutor’s Office, had a private law practice, and later served as a Posey County Court Judge. He then moved to Johnson County and served in several roles at Franklin United Methodist Home (now Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife). He loved traveling, watching sports, and playing bridge with his lifelong high school buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his daughter, Abby (John) Sacco; his sister, Pene (Roger) Bell; his niece, Allison (Tyler) Smith; his nephew, Evan (Amanda) Bell, and 6 grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at the chapel at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife, 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin, IN, on December 28 at 11 am, with calling one hour before. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Pat to the Wounded Warrior Project or the USO.
