Sheriff: Columbus woman arrested after driving drunk to jail

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local woman on multiple charges after she was accused of driving while intoxicated to the county jail to bond someone else out of jail.

At 3:03 a.m. Wednesday, Bartholomew County Deputy Dylan Prather was pulling out of the secure garage of the Bartholomew County Jail having just booked an offender into the jail when a silver Jeep entered the secure lot of the jail, deputies said. The driver of the Jeep honked the vehicle’s horn and came to a rest inside the parking lot.

The driver, later identified as Stephanie Horn, 58, Columbus, exited her vehicle and staggered toward Prather’s patrol vehicle, deputies said. During the interaction between Prather and Horn, she displayed several indicators of intoxication, she also refused to submit to a preliminary breath test, deputies said.

Horn told deputies that she had come to the jail to bond someone out.

Toward the end of the discussion with deputies, Horn became verbally aggressive and attempted to walk away from the deputies. Horn was placed in handcuffs however she began to resist deputies, and at one point kicked a deputy in his leg. Horn was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital and while there, she kicked a deputy in the shoulder, investigators said.

A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw after which Horn was transported back to the jail where she was booked on the charges of:

— Operating a vehicle while intoxicated

— Reckless driving

— Resisting law enforcement (two counts)

— Battery on a law enforcement officer(two counts)

— Public intoxication.

While in the booking process, Horn later provided a preliminary breath sample of 0.165% BrAC, deputies said. Horn is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail.
