Girls basketball

Trojans sweep tourney foes

Class 4A No. 5 Center Grove took care of business at its Carol Tumey holiday tournament on Friday, closing out with a 62-45 victory over Brownsburg in the nightcap. The Trojans (16-1) were led by a game-high 19 points from Audrey Annee and also got 14 from Lilly Bischoff, 11 from Ava Grant, nine from Rachel Wirts and eight from Aubrie Booker. Center Grove opened the day with a 72-24 trouncing of Jeffersonville. Grant had 18 points in that win, followed by Wirts with 16, Booker with 13 and Bischoff with 10.

Braves drop two at HOF tournament

Class 3A No. 3 Indian Creek dropped a pair of close games to ranked Class 4A teams on Friday in the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle. The Braves (13-4) lost their morning opener against No. 3 Columbia City, 75-69, before taking a 51-45 defeat against No. 9 Lake Central in the evening consolation contest.

Warriors take two in Lawrenceburg

Whiteland easily won its first two games at the Ray Furney Holiday Classic in Lawrenceburg on Friday, routing Connersville 72-43 and West Morgan (Alabama) 95-52. Ethan Edwards led the Warriors (5-4) with 17 points in the opener, with Jazz Banwait and Akol Akol adding 11 and 10, respectively. In the nightcap, Edwards had 22 points, Jazz Banwait 17, Gavin Stubbe 16 and Wiatt McLaughlin 15.

Trojan girls win invitational

Lara Phipps earned three individual wins (200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 individual medley) to lead the host Center Grove girls to victory at the Center Grove Holiday Invitational on Friday. The Trojan girls, who won all three relays, also got individual first-place efforts from Karlie Dodd (50 and 200 breaststroke), Tenley Wilkins (50 back), Lexi Stuart (50 free) and Addyson Matern (50 butterfly). Henry Lyness was a winner in the 50 backstroke for the Center Grove boys, who placed second behind University.

Franklin College

Women’s basketball routs Foresters

After jumping out to a 29-point halftime lead, Franklin College coasted to a 96-64 win over Lake Forest on Friday afternoon in the first round of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial tournament at DePauw. Taylor Cooney had 19 points and Jordan Coon 18 for the Grizzlies (8-2), who also got 12 points from Lauryn Bates, 10 points from Brooke Grinstead and 11 rebounds from CiCi Bailey. Franklin will play the host Tigers today at 4 p.m.
