FRANKLIN
Monica Jean (Pennington) Mathena, 80 of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Monica was born on February 15, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Maurice and Marian (Whitaker) Pennington. She married Philip Henderson Mathena on April 8, 1961. He lovingly survives. Also surviving are children, Kevin Mathena, Lynn Mathena (Monty), Joe Mathena and Rachel Mathena (Jamie); grandchildren, Katie Mathena (Justin), Sarah Mathena (Matt), Jenny Mathena (Aaron), Keegan and Kennedy Turner. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Maurice in 1991 and Marian in 1984.
She was a graduate of Whiteland High School and a 1977 graduate of IUPUI School of Nursing.
Monica was a Registered Nurse, working at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She also owned and operated Pennington Mobile Home Park in Franklin for many years.
Monice enjoyed genealogy, family gatherings and she loved her dogs.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with a Celebration of Monica’s life on Saturday, January 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Bandon Jolley will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin.
