Center Grove appoints Bill Long interim superintendent

The Center Grove School Corp. Board of Trustees appointed Bill Long as interim superintendent at the Wednesday board meeting.

The appointment comes following former superintendent Rich Arkanoff’s request to retire amid a state police investigation.

Long, Center Grove’s assistant superintendent of operations, began serving as interim superintendent Monday, as Arkanoff’s final day was Jan. 5. The board made the appointment official Wednesday evening.

Long has served as an administrator at Center Grove since 1998. Before his current role, he served for three years as principal of Center Grove Community High School and 20 years as assistant principal.

“The board is confident in Dr Long’s ability to step into the role and provide the leadership necessary to keep our school corporation moving forward,” Secretary Rob Daniels said at the meeting.

Center Grove sent a letter to faculty and staff on Jan. 5 announcing Arkanoff was retiring amid an Indiana State Police Investigation into “inconsistencies with his time off and reimbursement tracking.”

The school board and corporation business department are working with the Indiana State Police and the State Board of Accounts on an investigation into the practices.

While the investigation is early on, the letter says the school board is confident that the investigation won’t find additional discrepancies outside Arkanoff’s time off and reimbursement tracking.

The state police and board of accounts couldn’t provide additional details at this time, representatives said.
