FRANKLIN SYMPHONIC COUNCIL is holding its bi-annual band instrument drive.

All types of band instruments are needed.

If you have a used instrument and wish to donate it, a council member will pick it up, have it checked, refurbished or repaired as needed and pay for all necessary work.

The instruments are then donated to Johnson County schools.

ARTS

SOUTHSIDE ART LEAGUE presents a one-artist show by Indianapolis artist Jo Atkinson Belmont in January. Our guest artist will be exhibiting a collection of her transparent watercolor paintings and several ceramic pieces. Artwork will be displayed now to Jan. 27. Visit the gallery at 299 E. Broadway St., Greenwood, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Closed Sunday through Tuesday.

SOUTHSIDE ART LEAGUE WINTER EXHIBIT, now through March 30. Member artists will be exhibiting art works that follow the theme “Faces and Figures.” You have to come see it, because the subjects are not all humans as you might expect. A wide variety of styles, subjects, media and prices will be available.

CHURCH EVENTS

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF FRANKLIN is hosting an organist concert Jan. 21 at 12:15 p.m. Organist Colin Andrews will perform “La Nativite’ du Seigneur” (Nativity of the Savior). The piece will be performed on the church’s pipe organ. The concert is supported by a grant from the Branigin Foundation and is free to the public. The church is located at 100 E. Madison St. in Franklin.

LIVING ROOM CONVERSATIONS, 6:30 to 8 p.m. every second Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Adams Drive, Franklin. The topic for the next conversation will be on race; one option is “Being White in the Racial Justice Movement.” Small groups meet monthly to discuss timely topics, with a different topic each month. FUNDRAISERS

25TH ANNUAL CARRIE CLAYBURN MEMORIAL DINNER, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. An evening out consisting of a pork chop dinner and high school basketball will help benefit a scholarship fund. Held at Indian Creek High School, 803 W. Indian Creek Drive, Trafalgar. Dinner will be served until halftime of the basketball game between Indian Creek and Northview. Pork chops are being provided by the Indian Creek FFA. A free will offering will go to a scholarship in Clayburn’s name. Clayburn was active in 4-H and was a member of a soil judging team at Indian Creek High School. She died on Sept. 7, 1998 of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. She was studying horticulture at IUPUI at the time of her death.

FRANCISCAN HEALTH HOSTING SUPPORT GROUPS. The Franciscan Health Bereavement Support Team will be hosting Caterpillar Kids, a grief support group, over a four-week span at Christ United Methodist Church, 8540 U.S. 31 S., Indianapolis. The classes will meet: Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Caterpillar Kids and Teen Grief Support are free support groups that offer learning opportunities for children ages 6-12 and teens ages 13-17 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Sessions for children will include crafts, games, music, snacks and therapy dogs. Teens will have their own curriculum and meet separately. An adult support group is optional and offered at the same time for adults who have kids or teens in these groups. All support groups are free.
