Bowling

GCA girls pick up regional title

Greenwood Christian’s girls won the regional at Classic Bowling Lanes in Bloomington on Saturday, its score of 1,655 pins eclipsing runner-up Roncalli (1,627) and third-place Center Grove (1,589).

Cougars senior Emily Heldman was the top individual with a three-game total of 564, with the Trojans’ McKenna Coy taking fourth with a 474. In boys singles, Whiteland’s Benjamin Burnell placed third with a 548, while Center Grove’s Ashton Herman was sixth with a 526.

Semistate will be held at Vigo Bowl in Terre Haute this coming Saturday. Singles play starts at 9 a.m. and team competition begins at 2 p.m.

Girls basketball

Trojans knock off No. 1 HSE

Five Center Grove players scored in double figures as the Class 4A No. 4 Trojans posted a 74-58 victory at top-ranked Hamilton Southeastern on Saturday night. Lilly Bischoff paced Center Grove (21-1) with 18 points, followed closely by Rachel Wirts with 16. Audrey Annee and Ava Grant contributed 14 points each and Aubrie Booker added 12.

Grizzly Cubs handle Warriors

Class 4A No. 7 Franklin maintained its perfect Mid-State Conference mark with a 51-29 home win over Whiteland on Saturday afternoon. Scarlett Kimbrell, Erica Buening and Emma Sappenfield had 11 points apiece to lead the Grizzly Cubs (19-2, 6-0), while the Warriors (9-11) got 16 points from Gwen Higdon and nine from Carly VonDielingen.

Braves rout West Vigo

Faith Wiseman had 30 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots as Class 3A No. 5 Indian Creek coasted past West Vigo, 77-25. Lauren Foster added 19 points, five assists and four steals for the Braves (16-4, 8-0 WIC), who also got nine points from Jasmine Day.

Royals win conference title

Roncalli claimed its fifth consecutive Circle City Conference championship by defeating Bishop Chatard, 69-65. Elliot Leffler paced the Royals (12-8, 5-0) with 15 points, while Jasmine Horsman and Taylor Turk chipped in 12 points each.

Boys basketball

Center Grove wins at Roncalli

Jalen Bundy scored a game-high 17 points and Center Grove rode a stingy defense to a 47-33 victory at Roncalli on Saturday. Will Spellman added eight points for the Trojans (10-4), while Noah Schmaltz led the Royals (7-6) with a dozen points.

GCA cruises past Knights

Class A No. 7 Greenwood Christian had little trouble with Traders Point Christian in a 58-17 road win on Saturday. The Cougars (10-4) were led by 14 points from Noah Reed and 12 from Jordan Taulman.

Franklin defeats Dragons

Micah Davis’ 26 points led Franklin to an 81-67 win over New Palestine. Grant Hunter added 20 points for the Grizzly Cubs (12-2), followed by Kolt Nelson with 15 and Eli Zahm with 10.

Lancers pick up road win

Connor Ramey’s 21 points helped power Edinburgh to a 57-40 triumph at Cambridge City Lincoln. The Lancers (7-7) also got 11 points from Austin Brockman and eight each from Rylan Londeree and Jackson Hartwell.

Swimming and diving

Creek competes at WIC meet

Host Indian Creek was fifth on the boys side and sixth among girls teams at the WIC championships, which concluded on Saturday. Ella Taylor dominated the girls 1-meter diving competition, her score of 485.95 more than 110 points clear of the runner-up, and Skyler Jasper (451.95) steamrolled the boys field by more than 200.

Franklin College

Women’s basketball overwhelms Ravens

Jordan Coon’s 26 points headed up a potent offensive effort in Franklin College’s 94-75 victory at Anderson on Saturday afternoon. Georgia Hanauer scored 14 points for the Grizzlies (11-6, 6-4 HCAC), who also got 13 apiece from Lauren Barker and Taylor Cooney.

Men’s basketball sees streak end

Franklin College saw its five-game win streak snapped in a 95-77 setback at Anderson. The Grizzlies (9-8, 7-3 HCAC) were led by 19 points from Braden Flanagan, 15 from Cooper Matthews and 12 from Dylan Beverly.
