Martha M. Pearson

Martha Carolyn Metcalf Pearson, 98, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at home surrounded by family. She was born in Kansas, IL on November 9, 1925, the daughter of Brooks and Fay Metcalf. They moved as a family to Indianapolis when Martha was young and she grew up in the Haughville area of Indianapolis. Martha graduated from George Washington High School, where she excelled in academics and vocal music.

Martha’s music career started very young when she and her brother sang as the Harmony Twins. As a young woman she sang at the Columbia Club and had a morning radio show singing as “Martha Carol”. She was a soloist at many churches over the years.

Martha married Lee “Roy” Pearson in August 1947. She worked as a secretary at Purdue while Roy completed his degree. After returning to Indianapolis, Martha graduated from Butler University with a degree in Education and went back to her home high school teaching English. She later completed her Master’s Degree from IUPUI.

Martha is survived by daughter Ann Emery (Dave) and son Ted Pearson (Diane); Grandchildren Melissa Harris (Tony), Erin Hurst (Nathan), Kristen Miller (Evan), Emily Matteson (Justin), Nicholas Pearson (Kathleen), and Christopher Pearson (Erin); she has 10 great grandchildren: Ethan and Eli Ade, Jacob Miller, Harrison Hurst, Dominic, Xavier and Roman Matteson, Gabriel, Annie and Simon Pearson.

Services will be held on Tues January 30th at Saints Francis and Clare Roman Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood. Visitation at 11am followed by a funeral mass at 12noon officiated by Father Vincent Lampert. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to IU Hospice, Sts Francis and Clare Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.
