FREE NATURE HIKE this Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Driftwood Public Fishing Area, located at 8825 S. U.S. 31, Edinburgh.

Ivy Tech Columbus faculty member Dr. Tom Sobat will lead the hike, focusing on winter’s wonder while exploring the trails along the Driftwood River.

The hike is open to the public and all are welcome. Hikers will meet at the first paved parking area of the fishing area. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for cold weather.

ARTS

SOUTHSIDE ART LEAGUE featured artists in February will be the students of Beverly S. Mathis’ watercolor classes. The subject for the paintings was a “White Rose” and will be on display until Feb. 29; many will be for sale. Come meet the artists at the SALI Open House, Feb. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Visit the gallery at 299 E. SOUTHSIDE ART LEAGUE WINTER EXHIBIT, now through March 30. Member artists will be exhibiting art works that follow the theme “Faces and Figures.” You have to come see it, because the subjects are not all humans as you might expect. A wide variety of styles, subjects, media and prices will be available.

FRANKLIN SYMPHONIC COUNCIL is holding its bi-annual band instrument drive. All types of band instruments are needed. If you have a used instrument and wish to donate it, a council member will pick it up, have it checked, refurbished or repaired as needed and pay for all necessary work. FRANCISCAN HEALTH HOSTING SUPPORT GROUPS. The Franciscan Health Bereavement Support Team will be hosting Caterpillar Kids, a grief support group, over a four-week span at Christ United Methodist Church, 8540 U.S. 31 S., Indianapolis. The classes will meet: Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Caterpillar Kids and Teen Grief Support are free support groups that offer learning opportunities for children ages 6-12 and teens ages 13-17 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Sessions for children will include crafts, games, music, snacks and therapy dogs. Teens will have their own curriculum and meet separately. An adult support group is optional and offered at the same time for adults who have kids or teens in these groups. All support groups are free. FRANCISCAN HEALTH INDIANAPOLIS will be hosting a monthly Lung Support Group at the Indianapolis hospital, 8111 S. Emerson Ave., entrance 1, starting on March 21. The meetings will take place on the third Thursday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Cardiac Testing Conference Room. The Lung Support Group provides support for people living with lung disease.
