Indian Creek girls basketball rallies for semifinal win

Class 3A No. 6 Indian Creek booked a spot in tonight’s sectional championship game at Owen Valley — but Western Indiana Conference rival Northview made the Braves earn it.

Down by seven at halftime, Creek limited the Knights to just five points in the third quarter and two in the fourth to squeeze out a 40-31 semifinal victory.

“We definitely had to work for it,” Indian Creek coach Brian Ferris said.

The Braves (20-4) will meet Edgewood in tonight’s championship game. Indian Creek was a 78-35 home winner over the Mustangs on Dec. 15, but that was before losing a pair of key players, juniors Ayla Lollar and Bre Gault, to injuries.

Northview limited Indian Creek stars Faith Wiseman and Lauren Foster to six points apiece on Friday, but the Braves got big contributions from junior Jasmine Day, who scored all of her team-high 11 points after halftime, including three 3-pointers during a pivotal third period that saw the favorites pull ahead to stay.

Senior Olivia Pendleton had all of her 10 points in the first half to keep the Braves in the game. Lexi Sichting added five points and seven rebounds in the victory.
