Edinburgh Police K-9 passes away following illness

An Edinburgh Police K-9 passed away after an illness Sunday.

K-9 Kira fell ill during a routine monthly training exercise Thursday. She was transported to Indy Vet Hospital and diagnosed with Pneumonia and an infection. Despite treatments, Kira passed away in the arms of her handler Officer Ryan Coy and in the presence of fellow officers from several departments on Sunday, according to an Edinburgh Police statement on her passing.

Kira, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois, joined Edinburgh Police in the fall of 2022. She, along with K-9 Skye, was brought in that year to revive the town’s police dog program after decades without one.
