Independent film festival to debut this fall at Artcraft Theatre

A new film festival to feature Hoosier filmmakers is set in Franklin this October.

Torchfire Film Festival, which is being called “an exciting celebration of independent cinema” by the co-creators will screen at The Historic Artcraft Theatre in Franklin in its inaugural year. Embracing the spirit of creativity and diversity in filmmaking, Torchfire Film Festival promises to be a beacon for both seasoned filmmakers and emerging talents alike, creators Dustin and J.D. Brenton said in an announcement of the festival.

The Torchfire Film Festival aims to showcase the vibrant world of independent filmmaking while highlighting narratives from the Hoosier state. The festival invites filmmakers from across the globe to submit their feature-length and short films for consideration, with a special emphasis on those hailing from Indiana, creators say.

“At Torchfire Film Festival, we’re passionate about celebrating the art of independent filmmaking,” Dustin Brenton said in the announcement. “Our goal is to shine a light on both local and international talent. To provide a platform for filmmakers to share their stories and connect with audiences.”

The festival features two distinct categories exclusively for Indiana Filmmakers, offering them a unique opportunity to showcase their work at the Artcraft on Oct. 17. Winners in these categories will not only receive recognition through digital laurels, social media postings, certificates, and an award but also have their films showcased at the historic venue, creators say.

“By focusing on independent filmmakers, we hope to create a supportive environment where creativity thrives right here in the Hoosier State,” J.D. Brenton said in the announcement.

Filmmakers interested in submitting their work to the Torchfire Film Festival can do so through the festival’s official website, TorchfireFilmFestival.com, or via FilmFreeway, filmfreeway.com/TorchfireFilmFestival. Submissions are open now, and the festival encourages filmmakers of all backgrounds to participate.
