HENRY COUNTY — A 6th Congressional District Republican Gubernatorial Straw Poll will take place 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Knightstown Community High School auditorium. The straw poll is free of charge and open to the public.
Approved by the Republican Central Committee, the Henry County Republican Club is hosting the straw poll.
Located at 8149 W. U.S. 40, the straw poll will take place at the geographic center of the 6th congressional district, with doors opening at 8 a.m. An inclement weather date is set for Feb. 24, with a decision for the same timings to be made 24 hours in advance.
A press release on the event says Republican precinct committeepeople will comprise the delegations from each of the eight whole counties and three partial counties of the 6th district, and have been invited to attend to cast their ballots for Republican primary candidates of their choice for Governor. Those counties include Fayette, Hancock, Henry, Johnson, Rush, Shelby, Union and Wayne. The three partial counties are Bartholomew, Marion and Randolph.
Vice precinct committeepeople can vote as proxies in the absence of precinct committeepeople with 24 hours’ notice.
Candidates who have confirmed straw poll attendance as of Feb. 1 include U.S. Senator Mike Braun, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, Eric Doden, Curtis Hill and Jamie Reitenour.
According to the press release, only gubernatorial candidates who made the Indiana ballot by the Feb. 9 deadline and who are in attendance at the straw poll will be candidates at the straw poll. These candidates, along with presidential candidates making the Indiana ballot, will also have tables with campaign materials.
Gubernatorial candidates will speak forum-style, to include making opening and closing statements, with Q&A in between. Q&A will take place based on the popularity of questions submitted by the audience on 3-by-5 cards collected by volunteers and brought forward to the moderator. The amount of time allocated will be based on the number of candidates who make the Indiana ballot.
