1 injured, 1 arrested after fight at Bargersville’s Kephart Park

A fight between a dozen teenagers at a Bargersville park left one man injured and led to the arrest of another Friday evening.

Bargersville Police responded to a report of fighting between a dozen teenagers at Kephart Park at around 4:53 p.m. Friday. The fight ended with one adult injured and another adult arrested on a theft charge, said Officer Klint Brown, a Bargersville Police Department spokesperson.

It is believed the teens had a prior disagreement and had agreed to meet at the park to fight. Students who attend area high schools — possibly Center Grove, Franklin and/or Whiteland — were involved, Brown said.

Police confirmed the fight was not gang-related, he said.

Two of the teens’ fathers were at the park when the fight broke out. At some point a baseball bat was “in the mix” and the adults were involved in a struggle, Brown said.

However, it is unclear if the adult who sustained injuries was hit with the bat or pushed to the ground. A short video snippet from the fight indicated that he could’ve fallen and sustained the injuries, Brown said.

The man was transported to an area hospital with a severe head injury. No updates have been given on his condition, Brown said.

The man who was injured brought the bat to the fight. The other adult was arrested for theft after taking the baseball bat home with him, police say.

Police are seeking video and more information about the fight. They have interviewed some of the teens involved, but some of the information investigators have been told is not “adding up,” Brown said.

Information can be reported to Bargersville Police at 317-422-1222.
