Lyness wins twice at Senior State

Henry Lyness of Center Grove Aquatic Club finished first in both the 100-meter backstroke (57.72 seconds) and 100 butterfly (56.48) during the Indiana Swimming Spring Senior Championships, which concluded Sunday in Elkhart. Lyness also placed third in the 200 backstroke, fourth in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 50 free in helping CGAC to a seventh-place team finish. Lara Phipps added five top-seven finishes for CGAC on the girls side, including a runner-up performance in the 50 freestyle and a third-place effort in the 100 free, while Max Hite was third in the boys 200 freestyle.

Franklin Regional Swim Team was 11th in the team standings, led by Reagan Graves (fourth in the girls 200 free, sixth in the 100 butterfly) and Alexandr Ries (fifth in the boys 400 individual medley).

Baseball drops two of three

Franklin College wrapped up a weekend series against Albion with a 14-7 loss at Center Grove on Sunday after the two schools split a pair of Saturday games. The Grizzlies (5-4) bounced back from a 7-4 defeat in Saturday’s opener to post a 15-3 victory, with Sean Sullivan hitting a pair of home runs on the day and Andrew Wallace adding a three-run shot. Sullivan and Tysen Lipscomb each drove in a pair of runs Sunday.

Women’s tennis picks up road win

A doubles sweep helped Franklin College earn a 4-3 triumph at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. Ailyn Hendricks was a singles winner for the Grizzlies (2-5) and teamed with Maecee Terhune for a doubles point, while Brenna Atchison also won solo and paired with Sydney Carson for another victory.

Men’s tennis drops a pair

Franklin College got singles victories from Nathan Jarboe, Marcus Cox and Ezra Schwier but wound up on the losing end of a 4-3 score at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday. The Grizzlies also lost to Prairie State on Monday, 6-3, despite three-set singles wins from Cox and Brendan Hanner and a doubles point from Jarboe and Shay Kyser.

Women’s lacrosse suffers defeat

Mia Turnbaugh scored a goal, but Franklin College couldn’t generate any more offense in an 18-1 loss to Kalamazoo on Saturday.
