School zone coming to US 31 in Whiteland

A new school zone is expected to go into effect on U.S. 31 near Whiteland Road today.

Beginning today or soon after, residents will see four school zone flashing signals being installed along northbound U.S. 31 near Whiteland Community High School, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Two more flashing signals will be installed along southbound U.S. 31. Crews will also place school zone advance warning signs south of Whiteland Road along northbound U.S. 31, INDOT officials said.

The school zone speed limit will be 35 mph while school zone signals are flashing. Motorists should use extra caution in the area as drivers adjust to the new school zone, officials said.

INDOT encourages drivers to slow down and avoid distractions when traveling through school zones.
