2-month closure of Apryl Drive begins Monday in Greenwood

A portion of Apryl Drive will close for a Greenwood stormwater project starting Monday.

Construction crews will be working to replace the bridge over Tracy Ditch. The closure is expected to last 60 days, until approximately May 17, according to city officials.

Apryl Drive was extended over Tracy Ditch in 1981 as part of the construction of the Yorktown Farms subdivision. The bridge there was constructed using three separate corrugated metal pipes, which have since shown some wear and have had subsequent temporary repairs made to them by the city’s street department, said Chris Jones, the city’s stormwater superintendent.

The new bridge will be a concrete three-sided structure to improve the water flow and have a longer life span, Jones said.

Road closure signs for thru-traffic will be placed at the road’s intersections with Averitt Road (County Road 100 West) and U.S. 31. Full closure is at the bridge, between Kenwood Drive and the Ray Skillman Ford and Southside Hyundai buildings, city documents show.

The official detour route follows U.S. 31, Stop 18 Road and Averitt Road. It will be signed, city documents show.
