Two arrested for I-65 shooting near County Line Road

Two men have been arrested for an interstate shooting on Indianapolis’ southside after an “extensive investigation” by Indiana State Police detectives.

On March 17, ISP detectives received information from the Seymour Police Department about a gunshot victim in Seymour. An adult male initially reported the shooting to Seymour Police, telling them the shooting occurred on Interstate 65 near County Line Road in Indianapolis while he was driving, according to an ISP news release.

The male, who was suffering from an injury consistent with a gunshot wound, was subsequently taken to an area hospital for treatment. When officers checked his vehicle, they found damage consistent with several gunshots, state police said.

ISP detectives from the Indianapolis district responded to Seymour, and due to the location of the alleged shooting, they assumed control of the investigation. They were able to determine the male’s whereabouts from the period shortly before the shooting, quickly identified two suspects and a suspect vehicle through their investigation, according to the news release.

Investigators believe a verbal altercation took place at a business before the two suspects followed the male as he drove south on I-65. As he approached the area of County Line Road, the suspects allegedly pulled up next to the man and opened fire — striking the vehicle multiple times and the male at least once. There was no one else inside the vehicle at the time, according to the news release.

One of the suspects also allegedly used something to cover up the suspect vehicle’s license plate before following the male, state police said.

With help from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect vehicle and first suspect were located just after 8 p.m. March 19 near the 4000 block of Independence Drive in Indianapolis. After further investigation, including search warrants and interviews, ISP detectives arrested Guiver Cruz Juarez, 21, of Indianapolis.

Detectives located and arrested the second suspect, Alejandro Lopez Rosales, 19, following additional investigation. Rosales was arrested Thursday at an apartment on Troy Avenue in Indianapolis with the assistance of ISP’s SWAT team, according to the news release.

Both men were incarcerated at the Marion County jail following their arrests. They face preliminary charges of attempted murder and criminal recklessness, state police said.

Formal charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. ISP officials also noted that neither this incident, nor the suspects, have any connection to a recent incident where a 17-year-old driver was shot at on Interstate 465.
