Softball

Trojans tame Tigers

Sydney Herrmann homered, doubled and drove in four runs as Class 4A No. 3 Center Grove got out to an early lead and held on for a 6-3 home win over Fishers on Monday. Brynn Meyer scored a pair of runs for the Trojans (2-1), while Riley Fuhr pitched six innings for the win and Riley Henson tossed a perfect seventh for the save.

Lancers win season opener

Edinburgh got its season started with an 11-1 home win against Purdue Broad Ripple on Monday. Austin Brockman and Dakota Graw each scored three runs and drove in two for the Lancers, with Brockman hitting a home run. Pitchers Avynn Whitaker and Gabe Bennett combined to allow just one hit while striking out 13 hitters over five innings.

Locals excel at Hoosier State Relays

Johnson County was well represented at Saturday’s Hoosier State Relays in Bloomington, with Whiteland and Center Grove’s girls both posting top-10 team finishes and several local competitors earning top-three individual finishes. In the large school girls meet, Whiteland’s Elnora Stevenson was second in the long jump, Franklin’s Aubrey Runyon was third in the 60-meter hurdles, Greenwood’s Amy Luttrell was third in the pole vault and Center Grove’s Sukh Chahal tied for third in the high jump. On the boys side, Franklin’s Carson Sommers was a runner-up in the pole vault and Center Grove’s Kyle Montgomery took third in the 3,200 meters.

In the small school girls meet, Indian Creek’s Libby Dowty was third in the 3,200 meters.

Baseball sweeps Monday twinbill

Franklin College rebounded from an 0-2 start in HCAC play, sweeping a doubleheader at Defiance on Monday by scores of 17-4 and 17-0. Tysen Lipscomb and Anthony Smith each went 3 for 4 with four RBIs in the opener for the Grizzlies (11-6, 2-2), while Luke Willman belted a three-run homer in the nightcap to support a combined three-hit shutout from five pitchers.

On Sunday, Franklin College lost two conference home games to Rose-Hulman, 11-5 and 7-4.

Track and field competes in Kentucky

Franklin College traveled to Transylvania for the Pioneer Invitational on Saturday, where the men finished eighth as a team and the women were 14th. Logan McIntosh won the men’s javelin with a heave of 45.67 meters, while Steven Scott was second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 400.
