Janice Ellen McFerran

GREENWOOD

Janice Ellen (Butts) McFerran, 83, of Greenwood passed away on March 20, 2024, at Greenwood Village South. Janice was born on May 16, 1940 in Peru, IN to Orville and Arla Butts. She received a BA in history and political science from Butler University where she was the editor of the Butler newspaper. She received her MS in counseling from Purdue University. During her time at Greenwood High School she was the C-9 Liasion and started and was the coach of the Greenwood Wrestlerettes where she was given the nickname, “mom.” She was a teacher and counselor for 43 years and was part of the Delta Kappa Gamma teaching fraternity. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, playing in a Euchre group, meeting monthly with her retired teacher group for lunch, and had weekly movie nights with her friends. She was an Elder on Session on for Presbyterian Board at the Greenwood Presbyterian Church and concentrated her efforts in the Building and Grounds committee.

Janice is survived by her husband, Bill McFerran, Janice and Bill celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2023; son, Matt McFerran; daughter, Ann (John) Moore; sister, Kathy Neeley; grandchildren: David Moore, Rachel Moore, Madison McFerran and Makenna McFerran. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

The Celebration of Life is Friday, March 29th at 11 am and visitation begins at 10am. A lunch will be provided after the service.
