Greenwood man given 12-year sentence for assaulting woman

A Greenwood man will serve 12 years for battering a woman last year.

Brandon E. Streeter was sentenced to eight years in prison, two more years of incarceration with work release followed by two years of house arrest by Johnson Superior 3 Judge Douglas Cummins on April 5. He was convicted by a jury last month of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, and domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, and was previously incarcerated for 425 days.

Greenwood Police were dispatched to Streeter’s residence at Pinebrook Apartments on Feb. 6, 2023, for a report of domestic battery. Officers observed that the woman had numerous visible injuries, including a broken tooth. She reported that Streeter had beaten her and pushed her down the stairs, according to a news release from the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The victim also told officers that Streeter said, “I know how to beat a b**** so they can’t tell,” the news release said.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Prosecutor Brianna Acker and Division Chief Carrie Miles.

Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner was pleased to see Streeter sentenced to prison, he said in a statement.

“His comments about beating women are just reprehensible,” Hamner said. “I hope this criminal who prides himself on brutalizing women learns the lesson we’re teaching here — in this county, if you brutalize a woman, you go to prison. It’s really that simple.”

A no contact order will remain in place for the victim and a domestic violence determination was entered by the court which, among other things, prohibits Streeter from possessing a firearm in the future, according to the news release.
