Girls tennis

Woodmen get first victory

Greenwood got into the win column with ease, dropping just six games in a 5-0 sweep of Martinsville on Friday. Maggie Boyce, Brooklyn Hanson and Kate Boyce took the singles points for the Woodmen, who got doubles wins from Savannah McCauley and Mia Shaffer in the first spot and from Gracie Gasaway and Joelle Young at No. 2.

Trojans come up short

No. 14 Center Grove suffered a 4-1 setback against second-ranked South Bend St. Joseph. The lone point for the Trojans came at second doubles, where Kenna Harbin and Annaliese Runkle won 6-2, 6-3.

Lancers defeated by Jets

Edinburgh fell against Hauser, 4-1. Zoey Sida was a 6-3, 6-4 victor at third singles for the Lancers.

Warriors edged by Jennings

Despite taking both doubles points, Whiteland lost to Jennings County by a 3-2 score. Kinsey Shipp and Cathy Nguyen won in the No. 1 position for the Warriors, while Karley Hoagland and Namjeet Kaur came out on top at No. 2.

Track and field

Franklin girls first, boys second

Host Franklin’s girls won the Bill Self Invitational on Friday evening, with the boys placing second in the team standings. The Grizzly Cub girls had three double winners in Kathleen Lacy (800 and 1,600 meters), Aubrey Runyon (100 and 300 hurdles) and Emma Bertel (shot put and discus). Sydney Woodard took first in the 3,200, while Hanna Stewart won the 400 and teamed with Runyon, Ainsley Botkin and Lauren Klem to take the 4×400 relay.

J.D. Sever paced the boys with victories in both hurdles races, Carson Sommers won the pole vault and the 4×100 relay of Jackson Frazier, Clay Pinnick, Aidan Jeffry and Alex Leugers was also first.

Baseball

Warriors hold off Quakers

Whiteland got out to a big early lead and held on for a 9-6 home win over Plainfield on Friday. Maalik Perkins was 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Warriors, who also got a homer and two runs batted in from winning pitcher Drew Helton.

Softball

Grizzly Cubs fall to Cougars

Franklin lost to Greenfield Central on Friday, 25-4. Charlee Cramer and Sara Small had doubles for the Grizzly Cubs, while Aubrey Leugers had a triple.
