Lisa J. (Abel) Kibbe

GREENWOOD

Passed away on April 2, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born in Indianapolis on September 24, 1954. Lisa was a proud graduate of Howe High School, class of 1972. She later obtained her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Indianapolis. Lisa was known for her smile that would light up the room and her laugh that you would know anywhere. She worked in banking in a wide variety of functions starting in 1975. After several years in banking Lisa decided to obtain her CPA license and ran her own firm for several years. She returned to banking and retired from PNC as a Vice President in quality control in 2019.

Lisa always had sewing hobbies while working, beginning with cross stitch and needlepoint. She graduated to quilting and started doing quilting retreats with her good friend, Barb Creek, yearly. Lisa took to retirement like she had been released from prison. Upon retirement, her quilting obsession took over and there is not a quilt store between home and Alaska that she and Guy did not visit. Post retirement she met her social needs by regularly meeting with friends in a variety of ways. She was always happy to join her friends at Knotty Girls, Nimble Thimbles, and First Saturday at The Back Door, among others. Her newest obsession was machine embroidery, creating many embroidered gifts for her family and friends.

Lisa joined a women’s bowling league partnering with Paula Augustine to form their team, The Pinheads. While they may not have been the best bowlers, Lisa and Paula were competitive and usually ended each year near the top of the league. More importantly, they had a great time socializing with their fellow bowlers during bowling and lunch afterwards.

Lisa was blessed to have four grandbabies to spoil rotten before her passing. No one ever left grandma’s house without a hug, two, or three. She and Guy were able to travel extensively after her retirement, hitting every national park between Indiana and the west coast a few times, as well as Alaska, and most recently Italy.

Lisa is survived by her husband of 45 years, Guy; daughters, Erin (Nick), Lauren, and Chelsea (Max); grandchildren, Lincoln, Lila, Rowan, and Piper; mother, Jonelle Creque; and sisters, Deby Abel, and Lori (Steve) Bishop; sisters-in-law, Lindsay Schafer and Karen Kibbe; as well as several nieces and nephews who will all greatly miss her. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Creque; in-laws, Marian and Gifford Kibbe; and brother-in-law, Craig Kibbe.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for summer, Lisa’s favorite season, to take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024 with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and the celebration from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, 381 N. Bluff Road, Greenwood, IN 46142. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a local charity she was involved with, Book Pillows of Hope, 7767 Santolina Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46237, or the American Lung Association of Indiana online at https://action.lung.org/site/Donation2?df_id=31271&mfc_pref=T&31271.donation=form1.
