Lois Webster Walters

GREENWOOD

Lois Webster Walters, long-time resident of Greenwood, IN, and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away April 18, 2024, in Raleigh, NC.

Lois was born July 28, 1931, in New River, VA, to Fred and Evelyn Webster, and spent her formative years in Radford, VA. There she met and married her husband of 59 years, Dale O. Walters, Jr., who preceded her in death.

Lois was blessed with a wide circle of friends of all ages, and it seemed to her family that she rarely went anywhere where she didn’t meet someone she knew. Friends frequently enjoyed spontaneous dinner invitations and holiday celebrations in her home. Lois was always interested in her grandchildren’s pursuits and proud of their accomplishments. And they came to accept inevitable defeat when playing Yahtzee with their grandma. Family, friends and acquaintances demonstrated their special regard for Lois when they flooded her mailbox with more than 100 greeting cards and well wishes on her 90th birthday.

Lois always generously gave of her time. She was an active member and volunteer at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church. Family and friends could rely on her to support them in a time of need, preparing food, caring for children, providing transportation and helping manage their care. She did not slow down after moving to Raleigh in 2016 where she twice was elected to the Residents’ Council at her senior living community and taught new friends there how to play Mexican Train Dominoes.

She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of independence and a strong work ethic. She always feigned annoyance when others expressed surprise that she still was working at age 80.

Survivors include her children: Brent (Terri), Tim (Ann) and Mary Dale Walters; grandchildren Josh Walters (Christy), Sarah Brady (Eddie), Maggie Kimpton (Brad), Carly Walters, Tessa Khoury (Solomon) and Shelby Holland and great grandsons Dexter and Charlie Brady. Daughter Elizabeth Holland (Barry) pre-deceased her.

A Visitation (10 a.m.) and a Celebration of Life (11 a.m.) will take place Saturday, April 27, 2024, at G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation www.umdf.org.
