New JCPL app now available

The Johnson County Public Library’s new app is now available for patrons to use.

A contract dispute between two vendors caused issues with the old app beyond the library’s control, said Erin Kirchoff, Digital Services Manager. The library signed a new agreement with its events and reservations software vendor, Communico in January and has been working to finish the app since.

The vendor has been updating apps for other libraries affected by the same contract dispute, Kirchoff said. Submitting catalog details, customizing settings and receiving approval from the app stores themselves made the process lengthy, she said.

The new app features a streamlined search function, allowing users to group items by format. Digital services like Libby were integrated, allowing users to access e-books and magazines directly from the JCPL app.

“We strive to meet the various needs of our patrons and feel this new app provides us with more options than ever before,” Kirchoff said.

The app allows library patrons to:

  • Find books, DVDs, eBooks, magazines, music and more
  • Download or stream content from the Digital Library
  • Place holds and view checked out items
  • View your library card and link other cards for family members
  • Scan an ISBN to see if we own the title in our collection
  • Find and register for events
  • Reserve a room or meeting space
  • View and modify current program registrations or room reservations for everyone in your family
