James R. Browning

INDIANAPOLIS

James R. Browning, age 71, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away at Franciscan Hospital after a brief illness.

James was born on December 8, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Victor L. Browning, Jr and Laura Allene Busby Poland. He was a 1970 graduate of Wood High School in Indianapolis and a veteran of the United States Air Force. On 1970, James married Emma R. (Handlon) Browning. She preceded him in death in 1987. James worked for over 20 years for Stanley Alarm Systems and then opened his own alarm business for a few years. He then went on to get his CDL and worked as a semi-truck driver. Since 2015, James has worked for Perry Township School System as a school bus driver and at ABM, a subsidiary of Fed EX, as a driver for pilots and other airline staff. James was a perfectionist and took great pride in his home and enjoyed working on his house and the yard. He also enjoyed working out and riding his bike as much as possible. James deeply enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach.

Survivors include his children, Tammy Hartsock (Frederick) of Brownsburg, Michelle Shuler (Brian Harvey) of Brownsburg, and Russ Kaster (Amanda) of Indianapolis; one sister, Wanda Gail Ladd (Gary, Sr.) of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, Brittany Maxwell, Taylor Moyer, Emily Shuler, Erin Armas, Justin Shuler, Hunter Shuler, Autumn and Summer Kaster; one great granddaughter, Aubrey Morgan; former wife, Patricia Browning; one step granddaughter, Hayley Hartsock; three nieces, Abby Delk, Brandy Prather, and Danielle Browning; and four nephews, Justin Browning, Danny Browning, Gary Ladd, Jr., and James Ladd.

James was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one sister, Kathy L. Phillips and one brother, Donny Gene Browning.

Funeral services for James R. Browning will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 1PM at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory-Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street, Greenwood, IN. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 10AM until the time of service. Burial and full military honors will take place immediately following at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
