Lawrence officer arrested following Greenwood domestic dispute

A Lawrence Police officer was arrested in Greenwood following a domestic dispute.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3800 block of Clubhouse Court for a reported domestic incident at around 11:57 a.m. Thursday morning.

During the investigation, the deputies on the scene determined they had probable cause to determine a battery had occurred. Deputies arrested Joshua J. Wise, 43 of Greenwood, on a preliminary charge of domestic battery. He was transported to the Johnson County jail without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Wise works for the Lawrence Police Department in Indianapolis. The agency has been briefed on the situation, Sheriff Duane Burgess said.

Wise remains in the Johnson County Jail and is expected to be released Friday afternoon. Information on the incident has been sent to the Johnson County Prosecutors Office for their review and formal charges, Burgess said.

Lawrence Police issued a statement on the situation stating officials took immediate action upon learning of the alleged incident.

“The Lawrence Police Department takes any allegations of misconduct seriously and holds its officers to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior,” the statement says. “Upon learning of the incident, immediate action was taken by the department. Officer Wise has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. The department is committed to ensuring that the investigation is thorough and transparent.”
