Franklin, Whiteland seniors can apply for Franklin Lions Club scholarship

Franklin and Whiteland students can apply for Franklin Lions Club scholarships.

The club encourages qualified graduating seniors at Franklin and Whiteland high schools to apply for the $2,000 Loyd Hensley Service Award and the $1,000 Robert Hensley Agricultural Award by the May 17 deadline.

The recipient may use the grant for tuition and/or books at a four-year, two-year, or technical institution of higher education.

Applicants for the Loyd Hensley Service Award must be actively involved in the community and attain a GPA of at least 3.0. They must submit a list of school and community service and a three-paragraph essay. They may also include recommendations with their application.

Applicants for the inaugural Robert Hensley Award must be actively involved in some aspect of agriculture, including 4-H or FFA. They must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants must anticipate pursuing a career in an agriculture-related field. They must complete a form listing their agriculture-related involvement and complete a three-paragraph essay. They may also include recommendations with their application.

Students must submit their applications to their high school’s guidance director.

The club also recognizes seniors who have displayed school spirit through leadership, discipline, respect and dedication to his/her school and community through participation in extracurricular activities with the $1,000 Robert H. Justice Spirit Award. Only coaches and activity directors may nominate students for this award.
