Cougars advance in sectional

Greenwood Christian’s postseason debut was a good one, a 25-12, 25-16, 25-14 sweep of Terre Haute North in the first round of the Franklin Sectional on Thursday evening. The Cougars (16-7) advance to a Saturday semifinal against Monrovia, which was a three-set winner over Mooresville.

Girls tennis

Trojans defeat Panthers

No. 14 Center Grove earned a 4-1 victory over Bloomington South on Thursday. Ava Beecher and Lauren Dick won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans, while Kenna Harbin and Anna Runkle did the same at No. 2. Val Arriz and Emerson Donaldson came out on top at second and third singles, respectively.

Whiteland outdoes Southport

A doubles sweep helped Whiteland pick up a 4-1 win over Southport. Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp earned a point at first doubles, while the No. 2 tandem of Namjeet Kaur and Karley Hoagland also won in two sets. Rowen Starns pulled out a three-set triumph at No. 2 singles and Taylor Darnell won in straight sets at No. 3.

Lancers top Yellow Jackets

Edinburgh was a 4-1 winner over Morristown. Jessica Walsh, Izzy Richardson and Zoey Sida swept the singles points for the Lancers, with Walsh and Richardson winning in straight sets. Bella Turner and Gracie Lawson added a victory at second doubles.

Whiteland was defeated by Southport on Thursday, 157-182. Will Smith led the Warriors in defeat with a round of 41.
