Local students recognizes with award
Lewis University student athletes were honored for their academic excellence. The Delahanty Award recognizes students who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher while balancing the demands of athletics and academics.
Avery Holubar of Bargersville was honored. The Women’s Volleyball team member is studying Nursing at Lewis University in Romeoville.
Kiersten Smith of Greenwood was honored. The Women’s Swimming team member is studying Biology at Lewis University in Romeoville.
Br. David Delahanty, served as President of Lewis from June 1982 until his untimely death in October 1987. A personal advocate of physical fitness, Delahanty encouraged Lewis students to achieve excellence not only in the academic sphere but also in the athletic arena. Following his death, it was decided that a tribute to athletes based on their academic achievements would be made in his honor.
