Here’s what’s going on with I-69 the week of May 13

Work on the Interstate 69 Finish Line Project continues this week, with traffic pattern changes and more planned.

In Marion County, a new traffic pattern shifted lanes of Interstate 465 eastbound to allow contractors to begin removing pavement and moving the median barrier wall. The new configuration splits three lanes on I-465 eastbound between Kentucky Avenue and the White River Bridge, moving two lanes to the south of a barrier wall and one lane to the north, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation project update.

To exit onto Harding Street, drivers should stay in the far-right lane, starting near the Interstate 70 interchange. This will allow advanced lane movements and a safe exit onto Harding Street, according to INDOT.

From 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, the on-ramp from Kentucky Avenue to westbound I-465 will be closed to position construction equipment for bridge work. This work is weather dependent, and the closure may extend into Saturday if work cannot be completed during a single night, officials said.

Nightly double-lane closures and intermittent 20-minute stoppages are again expected at various locations on I-465 eastbound and westbound between Interstate 65 and I-70 through Friday. Closures and stoppages are expected between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for pavement upgrades, overhead sign structure installation and grading activities, according to INDOT.

The southbound U.S. 31/East Street ramp to I-465 westbound will also continue to be closed into summer, officials said.

In Morgan County, there will be active flagging crews on northbound and southbound I-69 between Morgan Street and State Road 144 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from now through Sunday to install pavement markings.

Motorists should also expect daytime intermittent single-lane closures on northbound I-69 beginning just north of Stotts Creek and continuing for two miles through May 24, as construction equipment is moved from the area, according to INDOT.

As for Johnson County, work that began last month is continuing.

Drivers should expect daytime single-lane closures on eastbound and westbound Smith Valley Road between State Road 37 and Mullinix Road through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for minor concrete patching and concrete staining work. They should also expect daytime eastbound and westbound single-lane closures on eastbound and westbound State Road 144 between Old State 37 and Eastern Service Road for the same type of work between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from now through Friday, according to INDOT.

While not an I-69 Finish Line project, the State Road 144 bridge over the White River will be restricted to one lane through November as the bridge is rehabilitated. Traffic will be controlled with a temporary signal that will be on a 4-minute-and-15 second cycle due to the length of the bridge, officials said.

All road work is weather-dependent and could be delayed due to inclement weather.
