Delores “Squeege” Thaxton

FRANKLIN

Delores “Squeege” Thaxton, 86 of Franklin passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024.

A kind, generous and sweet lady, who has faithfully kept her eyes on the Kingdom of Heaven her whole life, is at long last in the presence of her Lord and Savior: Jesus Christ. She will be remembered as a strong and independent woman who, since the passing of her husband 25 years ago, has kept the hearth warm and the grass mowed on the 5-acre property she bought with her young family 60 years ago, just outside Trafalgar, IN. Her faith in the Gospel &Grace of Jesus Christ has been the mainstay of her long, happy and influential life.

She was many things to many people, but she left her mark on this world and has left behind a legacy which already spans generations. Known to most as Squeege (nicknamed by her father) she was known to her 7 grandchildren, their spouses, and her 13 great-grandchildren affectionately as Mimi. She holds a permanent place in our hearts as someone who taught us how to love, how to laugh and how to hold firmly and unwavering to our beliefs. This prayer warrior was a fierce enemy to The Adversary and has trained others to step forward into her place.

She was born on June 24, 1937 in Charleston, West Virginia to Joseph “Joe” McCormick and Emma Pearl (Reed) McCormick. She married Leslie Clark Thaxton, Sr. on March 21, 1958. He preceded her in passing on January 2, 1999. Squeege is survived by son, Leslie Clark Thaxton, Jr. (Jacqueline) and daughter, Lisa Maddox-Sneath (Gale); grandchildren, Joshua Thaxton (Becky), Jereme Thaxton (Jamie), Jason Thaxton (Beth), Zach Maddox (Kylie), Chad Maddox (Jackie), Hannah Maddox and Heather Maddox; thirteen great-grandchildren, and siblings, Sonny McCormick, Buddy McCormick, Fran Tulley and Brenda Lloyd; several nieces and nephews; very close friend, Sue Cronk (George) and former daughter-in-law, Lisa Thaxton. She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Leslie and siblings, Luther McCormick, Joann Gibson and Patsy Haas.

She attended school at Stonewall- Jackson High School in West Virginia.

Squeege was a homemaker and ran a military surplus business with her husband for many years.

She was a member of Gracepoint Church. Squeege enjoyed gardening and canning. She was a very special woman who was loved by many. She was a long-time volunteer at the Lord’s Locker.
