JCPL Column: Register, read and win with Explore Summer

JCPL’s annual Explore Summer program is underway, and we hope you’ll join us as we work to reach our goal of reading 4 million minutes together as a community. Explore Summer, which is for adults, teens and kids, features some amazing programs and prizes to keep your family engaged all summer.

JCPL’s mission for the Explore Summer learning program is to support life-long learning for our community by providing free, fun, enriching summer experiences that build reading skills, nurture imagination and encourage self-driven exploration.

The program kicked off on May 13 and runs through July 31. If you register in May, you’ll automatically be entered to win four tickets to Kings Island. Each library branch will host a kick-off program featuring Wildcare, Inc., where people can meet their animal ambassadors and learn more about animal rehabilitation.

Be sure to pick up your Explore Summer yard sign when you register, post it in your yard and then keep your eyes out for the JCPL Prize Squad. They will be out and about from May 28 to July 23. If we see a sign in your yard, you may get a special tote bag full of goodies!

When you participate in weekly learning challenges from May 27 to July 7, you earn an activity badge and a coupon from a local business. You are entered into our weekly prize drawing when you log your weekly activities. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, we are giving away some fantastic prizes, including Tonies, a Nintendo Switch Lite, a pop-up tent, Cricut Joy, Stanley cups, and a bike or scooter shopping spree.

Adults must read for 15 hours to complete the program, and teens/kids must read for 10 hours. Upon completion, you’ll be entered to win the grand prize package. This year, you can choose between a Holiday World getaway OR an iPhone 15 (service plan not included). Want to read beyond 10 or 15 hours? Go for it! We also have an Eager Reader prize to give away: tickets to the Indianapolis Zoo.

Once we reach our goal of 4 million minutes read, be on the lookout for an announcement about the Community Prize: a family fun night at Rascal’s Fun Zone in Whiteland.

We hope you’ll participate this year — all you have to do is come to a JCPL branch to register for Explore Summer or visit us online at PageAfterPage.org/ExploreSummer. We can’t wait to see you this summer!
