Pridgeon & Clay to lay off 75 workers in Franklin

Seventy-five workers at a Franklin manufacturing facility are being let go.

Pridgeon & Clay, Inc. notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development of a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification layoff notice that will go into effect June 17. The layoffs will happen in three waves with the first wave affecting 13 employees, said Randy Spieth, director of communications at the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

According to the notice, the separation is not the result of a national, state or local emergency and COBRA and separation benefits will be provided. Although the notice states that the separation will not result in a closure, it is unclear whether the layoffs will result in the closure of the Franklin location.

The company is “one of the largest independent, value-added manufacturers and suppliers of automotive stamped and fine-blanked components in the United States,” according to its website. Its corporate headquarters is in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the company has other locations in Mexico, Hungary and China.

According to city documents, on Sept. 25, 2000, the city approved a 6-year personal property and a 10-year real property tax abatements for Pridgeon & Clay. Following an expansion, the company received another 10-year real property and a 7-year personal property tax abatement on July 21, 2014.

These abatements have since run their course and there is no active tax break, said Dana Monson, Franklin’s community development specialist.

Daily Journal reached out to Pridgeon & Clay multiple times but did not receive a comment by press time.
