Procession route announced for former Greenwood mayor’s funeral

Officials have released Wednesday’s procession route for former Greenwood mayor Charles Henderson’s funeral.

Henderson died on May 13 at the age of 82. He served as the city’s mayor from 1996 to 2012 and was its police chief from 1984 to 1994.

The procession is expected to be around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Greenwood Police.

The route starts at Jessen Funeral Home in Whiteland and ends at Greenwood Cemetery, the department said.

Here is the full route:

  • Jessen Funeral Home, 72 N. U.S. 31, Whiteland;
  • North on U.S. 31 to Madison Avenue in Greenwood;
  • North on Madison Avenue to Smith Valley Road;
  • East on Smith Valley Road to Meridian Street;
  • North on Meridian Street to Surina Way;
  • East on Surina Way to Washington Street (brief stop in front of GPD, 186 Surina Way);
  • North on Washington Street to Main Street;
  • West on Main Street to Meridian Street;
  • North on Meridian Street to Wiley Street;
  • West on Wiley Street to Madison Avenue;
  • South on Madison Avenue to Main Street (brief stop in front of the former city hall, 2 N. Madison Ave.); and
  • West on Main Street to Greenwood Cemetery, 620 W. Main St.

Drivers and residents should be prepared for delays as the procession moves through the city.
