School board candidate filing opens today

People hoping to join local school boards can now file for election.

The window for eligible residents interested in serving on their local school board opens today, and potential candidates have until noon June 20 to file for open seats. Fourteen seats are up for election across the county’s six public school districts.

Seats up for election this fall are:

  • Center Grove School Board At-Large — 2 seats
  • Clark-Pleasant School Board: Pleasant Township — 1 seat
  • Clark-Pleasant School Board At-Large — 1 seat
  • Edinburgh School Board At-Large — 2 seats
  • Franklin Community School Board: City of Franklin — 2 seats
  • Franklin Community School Board: Franklin Township — 1 seat
  • Greenwood Community School Board: District 1 — 1 seat
  • Greenwood Community School Board: District 3 — 1 seat
  • Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson School Board: Nineveh Township (only Nineveh Twp. votes) — 1 seat
  • Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson School Board At-Large — 2 seats

To run for school board, candidates must live in a township that is on the ballot, or if running for an at-large seat, live within the boundaries of the school district. Candidates must also collect at least 10 signatures supporting their campaign, the forms for which can be picked up and dropped off at the Johnson County Clerk’s Office in the basement of the courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., Franklin.
