What’s open, closed for Memorial Day in Johnson County

Memorial Day weekend is here and so are related closures for the holiday.

The holiday is seen by many as the unofficial start of summer, but its official purpose is to commemorate the armed forces by honoring those who died while serving in the U.S. military.

Here’s a look at what is open or closed this weekend.

Businesses

Most, if not all, banks, will be closed Monday.

Daily Journal — The Daily Journal and the AIM Media Customer Service Call Center will be closed Monday.

Interchurch Food Pantry The pantry, 211 Commerce Drive, Franklin, will be closed Saturday and Monday.

Governments

All levels of government — federal, state and local — will have offices closed Monday. There will be no mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service either. Most, if not all, local trash services will be collected a day late.

Johnson County Animal Shelter — Closed Saturday through Monday. Those who have an animal-related emergency and need assistance from an animal control officer should call dispatch at 317-346-6336.

Libraries

Edinburgh Wright-Hageman Public Library — Closed on Monday.

Greenwood Public Library — Closed on Monday.

Johnson County Public Library — All branches will be closed Monday.

Pools

The Franklin Family Aquatic Center, Edinburgh Aquatic Center and Freedom Springs Aquatics Park in Greenwood will all be open this weekend and on Memorial Day.
