Open house set to discuss Johnson County zoning code updates

The Johnson County Advisory Plan Commission is set to host an open house this week on the county’s new Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO.

The meeting is Thursday at 6 p.m. in the public auditorium of the West Annex Building, 86 W. Court St., Franklin.

County officials are working with American Structurepoint Inc. and The Planning Workshop Inc. to develop the new UDO. The consultants will be presenting a PowerPoint presentation at the Thursday meeting to facilitate conversation and to highlight key portions of the UDO to the plan commission, county representatives and the general public, County Planning Director Michele Hansard said in an email.

The open house is to prepare officials for the review the final draft of the document prior to beginning the adoption stage of this project and to get input on the UDO changes. This meeting will also residents give the opportunity to share with the consultant team any key issues that should be covered in the final draft of the UDO, Hansard said.

After this meeting, the consultants will make any necessary changes to the draft based on feedback received at the meeting. Once the final draft is complete, it will become available for the plan commission’s review before adoption, Hansard said.
