Road work to lead to multiple I-465 lane, ramp closures

Several lane and ramp closures will start this weekend on Interstate 465 in Indianapolis for concrete pavement and bridge deck patching work.

Beginning on or after Friday, crews will close I-465 southbound between Interstate 70 and Interstate 65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis. On weekdays, traffic on I-465 southbound will be reduced to three lanes between 46th Street and the I-465/I-70 interchange, while on weekends, traffic will be reduced to two lanes, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

These closures will allow crews to safely complete pavement restoration, bridge deck patching and joint repairs, officials say.

Eight ramps will also be closed starting at the following dates and times:

9 p.m Thursday

  • Pendleton Pike eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound

9 a.m Friday

  • Brookville Road/U.S. 52 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound
  • Washington Street/U.S. 40 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound

7 p.m. Friday

  • I-70 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound

9 a.m. Saturday

  • Emerson Avenue northbound and southbound to I-465 westbound
  • I-74 westbound to I-465 southbound
  • Shadeland Avenue southbound to I-465 southbound
  • Southeastern Avenue/Old U.S. 421 to I-465 southbound

The official detour for this work is I-465 southbound to I-70 westbound to I-65 southbound. The lane and ramp closures are expected to be removed by the end of June, according to INDOT.

This is the second of six parts for I-465 restoration work between I-65 and U.S. 31 on the east side of Indianapolis. This work is expected to be complete in spring 2025, officials say.

INDOT asks drivers to consider worker safety by slowing down, using caution and avoiding distractions when traveling in and near work zones.

All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
