The University of Indianapolis picked up its third NCAA Division II women’s golf championship, with sophomore Ava Ray, a Franklin graduate, in the starting lineup.

In the semifinal round, Ray fired a score of 68 to win her match by four strokes against her opponent from Dallas Baptist. She previously tied her foe from West Texas A&M in the quarterfinal round.

Trine softball was unable to capture consecutive Division III national titles, but still closed with a 43-5 record after bowing out in the super regionals. Sophomore Debbie Hill drove in two runs with a single during a 9-0 win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh, then singled twice and took the pitching loss in the next game, a 3-1 loss to the same opponent.

Indiana shortstop Tyler Cerny doubled and scored three runs to help the Hoosiers down Ohio State, 14-7, at the Big Ten baseball tournament. IU then lost twice to Nebraska, with Cerny singling once in each outing.

Noah Gillard was one of two Indiana men’s golfers named to the NCAA Division I All-Midwest team. Gillard was second on the Hoosiers in stroke average (71.92), which is seventh-lowest in school history. He finished the season with three top-five finishes, landing in the top 10 four times and the top 20 on eight occasions.

Florida softball, with freshman Keagan Rothrock (Whiteland) in the pitching circle, advanced to the Women’s College World Series by winning two of three games against visiting Baylor in the super regional. Rothrock (30-6) went the distance in the opener, allowing six hits and striking out five. She took the loss in the next outing but bounced back to toss an eight-hitter in the tiebreaker, a 5-3 Florida win.
