Hugh Edgar Carter, III

Hugh Edgar Carter, III, 84 of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in Greenwood, Indiana.

He was born on September 9, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee to Hugh Carter, II and Estelle (Ott) Carter McQuinn. Hugh married Jeanne (Poindexter) Carter on March 6, 1965. She preceded him in passing on April 13, 2010. He is survived by daughter, Cassi Carter; son, Chris Carter; granddaughter Brooke Chastain (Kenny); step-granddaughter, Ivy Rose Chastain and a great grandson on the way. Also surviving is his brother, Mike McQuinn. He was preceded in passing by his parents; step-father, David “Curly” McQuinn.

Hugh attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and Franklin College. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Hugh was employed by PSI (now Duke Energy) as a Service Lineman, retiring after forty years of dedicated service.

He was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served as a former Elder. Hugh was a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge No. 1818 and a member of the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205. Hugh was a trustworthy man and had a great sense of humor.

Pastor Brandon Jolley will conduct a Celebration of Hugh’s life on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 6 from 12:00 p.m. to time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana where military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
