Jeanne L. Weaver

MORGANTOWN

Jeanne L. (Mercer) Weaver, age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, May 30, 2024, surrounded by family. She was a long-time resident of Morgantown.

Jeanne was born July 10, 1924 in Chicago, IL to her parents, the late Gilbert and Opal (Tucker) Mercer. She was raised by her aunt & uncle Dovie and Bob Gregg in Nashville, where she attended high school. After high school, she participated in the Nursing Program at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Jeanne retired from American States Insurance in Indianapolis where she worked as a manager for over 20 years. Her true passion was buying, collecting and selling antiques. She worked with many local antique dealers and owned her own shop “The Memory Place” in Morgantown during the 1980’s.

For nearly a century, Jeanne had dedicated her time and efforts in procuring the history of Morgantown, which she was proud to call home. With her passing, the town has lost a great historian who loved to collect historical artifacts and share the history & stories with local residents. Jeanne even co-authored a book about the richness of the town she loved dearly. Jeanne was very influential in creating Colonel Vawter Day, which is a celebration of the founding of Morgantown. Jeanne was very patriotic and had a special place in her heart for our veterans. She made it a point to visit and document veterans in rural cemeteries to make sure they were not forgotten. Every Memorial Day, Jeanne made sure an American flag was placed on their graves and that their name was spoken.

Jeanne was an 80-year member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed antiquing, listening to music and spending time with her family. Jeanne always looked forward to wintering in Bradenton, FL with her husband, Pada, where she took long walks early in the morning to gather the best shells and shark teeth.

Besides her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death on August 20, 2004 by her loving husband of 61 years, Harold W. “Pada” Weaver, whom she married on December 7, 1943 in Knoxville, TN. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra J. Stockton on December 10, 2021.

Jeanne is survived by her sons, W. Hollis (wife, Annette Miller) Weaver of Germantown, OH and Eric V. (wife, Jane) Weaver of Franklin; son in law, Norman Stockton of Morgantown; grandchildren, Wade (wife, Marie) Stockton of Smyrna, GA, Cara (husband, Tyson) Burris of Franklin, Carrie (husband, Isaac) Watson of Morgantown, Jon (wife, Megan) Weaver of Martinsville, Brett (wife, Brittany) Weaver of Trafalgar & Dylan (wife, Jeanette) Weaver of Centerville, OH; eleven great grandchildren with one on the way; and one great-great grandson.

All services will be at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Jeanne will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jeanne to “Wreaths Across America” which is held every December with a wreath placed on a Veterans grave to remember the fallen, honor those who serve & to teach the next generation the value of freedom.
