College notebook: Rothrock pitches Florida to brink of WCWS final

The University of Florida softball team advanced to within a game of the Women’s College World Series championship series, defeating Oklahoma State, eliminating Alabama and ending Oklahoma’s 20-game NCAA tournament win streak before being knocked out by the Sooners, 6-5, in eight innings. Roncalli graduate Keagan Rothrock, a Whiteland native, started all five WCWS games for the Gators, with a two-hit shutout win over Oklahoma State among her three wins.

Rothrock finished her freshman season with a 33-9 record and a 2.59 earned-run average, striking out 201 batters. She was one of three finalists for the NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year award.
