Emma Jean Scott

PALM HARBOR, FLORIDA

Emma Jean Scott (Walters), 95, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away on Sunday evening, June 9, 2024. She was a former longtime resident of Franklin, Indiana.

She was born on July 2, 1928 in Paragon, Indiana to the late Dewey Jennings and Bessie Loretta (Ritter) Walters. Emma Jean married Carl Jackson “Jack” Scott on August 24, 1956. She is survived by daughter, Sue Ellen Scott (Jani Barron) of Safety Harbor, Florida; son, Gregory Jackson Scott (Judith Contreni) of Elliott City, Maryland; two grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Scott and Evan Gregory Scott; brother, Richard Leon Walters and sisters, Mattie Sue Dickey and Teresa Anne Sample. She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Jack; son, Brian Keith Scott; granddaughter, Emily Katharine Scott and brothers, Charles Edward Walters and Paul Ronald Walters.

Emma Jean graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and received her Master’s degree from Indiana University. She worked as an elementary school teacher for more 30 years, and was a seven-time winner of Franklin Community School Corporation’s Most Influential Teacher Award, as voted by graduating high school seniors.

A longtime member of Tabernacle Christian Church, Emma Jean served many years as Deaconess and was active with the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF).

Visitation for Emma Jean will be Thursday, June 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Rev. Bill Horner will conduct a service on Friday, June 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Christian Church, 198 N. Water Street in Franklin. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana.
