I-465 southbound lanes, ramps to reopen this weekend

Southbound lanes of Interstate 465 on Indianapolis’ southeast side will reopen this weekend.

Since May 31, concrete pavement bridge deck patching work and joint repair work closed several lanes and ramps of I-465. This work was expected to last until the end of June, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Officials announced Friday that the reopening of the lanes and ramps would begin on Friday. Crews will start re-striping all of the lanes to get them back to their original configuration, INDOT’s East Central division said in a post on X.

“This is a long process — expect the lanes to steadily reopen,” the post said.

Crews were expected to re-stripe I-465 southbound between 46th Street to Interstate 70 from Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. I-465 southbound between I-70 and Interstate 65 was expected to reopen Friday through early Saturday morning, according to the post.

Ramps were expected to reopen between Friday and early Saturday morning, the post said.

INDOT officials also said they appreciated drivers’ patience during the closure. The work was the second of six parts for I-465 restoration work between I-65 and U.S. 31 on the east side of Indianapolis, with all work expected to be complete in spring 2025.

The next phase of work is expected to begin soon. Crews will start placing signage for the I-465 northbound closure on Monday, with more information to come next week, the X post said.
