GREENWOOD, IN.
Lois Ann Tharp, 84, of Greenwood, IN was ushered into the Lord’s presence Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 6, 1939, in Greenwood, IN to Robert A. and Florence J. Weaver. Lois grew up in White River township and graduated from Center Grove High School in 1958. She married Dale L. Tharp on May 10,1959 and they enjoyed 57 happy years together until his death in 2017.
In the ensuing years, Lois was instrumental in helping Dale build his business, Dale’s Body Shop, in the Smith Valley area. They operated the business together until 1996, at which time a tornado destroyed the business. Lois was a true helpmate as she and Dale also farmed their property on Stones Crossing Rd. They were longtime members of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, where Lois served in the children’s and hospitality ministries. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, cooking, and gardening. Lois was an unparalleled mother, grandmother, and homemaker who doted on her family and friends, always willing to prepare a meal, attend an event, or lend a hand. Her household was the setting of many of her family’s most cherished memories. Lois was deeply committed to her faith in Jesus Christ and leaves behind an extraordinary example of a life seeded by humility, gentleness, compassion, and grace, evidenced by her heart for putting others first.
Lois is survived by her children, Sheryl Avery (Dean) of Beech Grove, Allison Waltz (Mike) of Trafalgar, and Dan Tharp (Ange) of Indianapolis; grandchildren Nicole Yeagley, Cody Avery, Jared Waltz (Erin), Ethan Waltz (Hali), Zach Tharp (Rachel), Alyssa Tharp, Kenney Smock (Megan), Sara Leisch (Nick Baldridge); 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Joyce Purkhiser. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Lois’s home caregivers, as well as the staff of Greenwood Village South Manor.
A service memorializing the remarkable life of Lois Tharp will be conducted on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, 381 N. Bluff Rd, in Greenwood, IN. Friends may call Monday, June 24, 2024, from 4-8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. U.S. 31 (Morton St.) in Franklin, IN and Tuesday, June 25 from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
