Martha Louise (Albers) Overby

TRAFALGAR, IN.

Martha Louise (Albers) Overby, 90, of Trafalgar, IN passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 6, 1934, in Indianapolis, IN to Julius Henry and Elsie Ruth (Martin) Albers. Martha married James William Overby on November 24, 1948; he preceded her in death on September 9, 2008.

The second youngest of 10 children she was no stranger to working hard and helping with the many responsibilities of a large family. She became known for her quick wit and humorous “come backs” undoubtedly learned from her many siblings. She will long be remembered as a strong, loving and independent woman having raised six children of her own as well as several “foster” children that she lovingly welcomed into her home. She cared deeply and loved fiercely!

She was many things to many people: to her husband she was his best friend and helper. To her children she was their world! To her grandchildren she was their partner in crime and to her great and great-great grandchildren she was fun!

Martha was well known as the families’ Euchre champ and dice “Diva” as she was unbelievably lucky in either game. Never letting an opportunity pass for a good game.

Martha is survived by her five children, Juanita Mitchell (Gary) of Franklin, IN, Judy Jacobs (Tom) of Franklin, IN, Julie Parsley (David) of Trafalgar, IN, Jerry Overby (Teresa) of Edinburgh, IN and Jenny Weddle of Indianapolis, IN. Her grandchildren James Overby, Marty Overby (Mackenzie), Tim Overby (Susan), Jon Overby (Lisa), Joe Overby, Ben Overby (Megan), Tracy Mays (John), Rusty Hildebrand (Julie), Laura Wilson (Jerry), Matt Coy, Kristopher Overby (Amanda), Isaac Overby (Kelsey), Valerie McMasters (John), and Daniel Kemp (Christa): forty-eight great-grandchildren, and thirty-one great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son James Roger Overby, her grandson Brian Wayne Mitchell, her great-granddaughter Sarah Grace Overby and great-great granddaughter Brinlee Kay Gonterman. As well as her nine siblings, Charles Albers, Kenny Albers, Roy Albers, Robert Albers, Julius Carl “Jr.” Albers, Donald Albers, Mary May, Elsie “Sis” Bess, and Doris Wash.
